Serengeti Lion: National Geographic Multi Media

My multi media critique is on, The National Geographic, The Serengeti Lion. This multi media project has videos of lions playing in the Serengeti, doing their every day tasks, taking care of their young, hunting, playing, etc. The story takes you to many different areas of the Serengeti Lions. It shows what their life it like, it has sounds that enhance the video aspects such as roaring, growling, other habitat sounds such as birds, wind, small bug sounds.. etc which makes you feel that you are apart of the journey with them. Along with a commentary that gives information about them, it gives more information about them and what the section is about, the commentary is short and sweet and allows you to take in all the videos and photos with out the distraction of a voice speaking to you.
I especially enjoyed the Robot section, this is when The National Geographic put in their camera robot to get a closer, more intimate look at the lions, though you would think that the lions would attack this new object in their territory they were not concerned about it, which I though was very interesting. I also enjoyed how there are different sections that allow the viewer to understand the Serengeti Lions, it made it simple to understand and to grasp knowledge about them. It also showed one main video for the section, along with still shot photos of the event that they were taping on, which I though captured a lot of emotion as well.
The baby lions made it very hard to not stop watching they were so cute, and playful that it made it feel happy, I also very much enjoyed the roaring section as well, it showed the male lion roaring and communicating with other lions, this showed the power and how they truly live by their name, “The King of the Jungle.”
Overall, I loved this multi media project is was very entertaining, educational, and overall gave the viewer a first hand look of what the Serengeti lion does within its habitat. This also allowed viewers to think they were in the Serengeti with them, especially with the habitat noises and video sounds, and the videos that the project had. After watching this, I now want to travel to Africa and go on a Safari to see these majestic animals in person, along with all the other animals that live in the Serengeti as well. I believe that this would be a truly unforgettable experience.

12 Hour Day With Out Social Media

A 12 hour day without any social media was actually very difficult for me. I am constantly on my phone, checking Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, and even texting, wondering what everyone else is up to throughout the day. I think no texting for 12 hours was the most difficult for me, I am always texting someone, or texting someone back. I felt very out of the loop, and very isolated from not being able to do this. Though at the same time life without social media for just 12 hours was beneficial, relaxing and engaging as well.
By not using social media for this time, it allowed me to be more aware of what people were talking about, engaging in conversations more and being able to just talk rather than looking at my phone and making the other person feel that I am ignoring them by looking at something else. I also feel this way when I did not have a phone, people would always be on their phone when I was talking or trying to ask a question and I would have to repeat myself multiple times in order to get the message through or for them to finally understand what I was asking. This allowed me to see how I must come across to others when I do this to them. By not being on my phone most of the day it also allowed me to be more aware of my surroundings and to just relax and be in the moment without worrying about social media drama.
Throughout this project I came up with why life is a lot better without social media, here are a couple examples I came up with. You don't have to constantly compare your life to others, it feels so good to just focus on what is going on in you're life rather than comparing your life to anthers such as achievements that they have accomplished. Another example is, you become more sociable, the phone is like a crutch is it always there yet it is not always great it creates a less sociable environment because people rely on talking through the phone rather than face to face. And finally I have found that I do not procrastinate as much when social media is not around, whenever I am doing homework, I was seem to be side tracked by Facebook or other social media sites which makes the process of competition longer than it took me to complete the same assignment when I was not side tracked by Facebook.

Overall, this assignment was very beneficial for me, it allowed me to see what people my perceive me as when I am constantly on the phone, it also showed me how much of a distraction it is for me especially when I am completing assignments, how more sociable I become throughout this 12 hour period, and finally it helped me not to compare my self to others but to pay attention more to myself.

Abbey Niezgoda: Multi Media Journalist

The multimedia journalist I have chose is Abbey Niezgoda she is a Tv news reporter for the NBC Connecticut today. She enjoys reporting on  breaking news, stories that inspire viewers along with educate the community, and viewers. One of her most memorable moments of her career was watching a 12-year-old paralyzed gymnast stand up for the first time after suffering from a mysterious illness.
On her website she has many videos of the stories she has captured throughout her time as a TV news anchor. All of her videos are effective and creates a personal touch that all viewers can understand. My favorite video she has on her site is the “Firefighters Funeral.” it shows true emotions of what visitors are feeling, along with the love and support firefighters from different departments even if they did not know him. Firefighters are a family they are all brothers, even if they are not know the firefighter that passed away. Abbey even explains a tradition that firefighters do with the remembrance cards in which place them in their hats throughout the ceremony.
Abbey truly hits every emotion within her videos, her tone of voice makes it you feel comfortable and allows you to stay in engaged in the story. I also like how she can cover all different kinds of news, rather than just one specific topic. It shows that she is well rounded and can relate to everyones stories. She is just located on her website, but she knows the importance of social media in which she has a huge following on both Twitter and Facebook, to keep her viewers updated on latest events occurring within their state, along with the United States.

Overall, I think Abbey Niezgoda is a very effected multimedia
journalist, she can capture emotion, yet can get straight to the point of her stories to make sure that her viewers get a clear understanding what is going on.

The New York Times Social Media Policy

I chose to critique The New York Times, social media policy. I like how the first point of their policy is to stating, that no one shall upload, or distribute, absence, pornographic, abusive or illegal material. I think this allows their site to stay notable and reliable. Social media brings a lot of people outside comments, and which could lead into disrespectful language. Another point the New York times mentions is, “ Use of respectful language, Like any community, the online conversation flourishes only when our Members feel welcome and safe. You agree not to use language that abuses or discriminates on the basis of race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual preference, age, region, disability, etc. Hate speech of any kind is grounds for immediate and permanent suspension of access to all or part of the Services.” Along with “Debate, do not attack.” Though NYT encourages active discussions and welcomes heated debate on the Services, commentaries are found disrespecting others or creating personal attacks, “is a these Terms of Service and are grounds for immediate and permanent suspension of access to all or part of the Service.” I also like the 3.5 policy part as well, this states that you are responsible for your submission though The New York Times has the right to delete, move or edit any submission that is sent that includes, abusive, defamatory, obscene, and violation of copy right and trade marks. I know debating can get pretty heated especially when a topic is being talked about that is very important to you. And when others are attacking what you think is right this can lead to over stepping your words, and using hurtful words towards others in the debate/ discussion. I believe the New York Times social media policy, is ver fair and very well written, it states what they encourage, what they do not encourage, and the potential outcomes of being disrespectful on their site.

Chicago Speed Cameras

Being a driver in Chicago can be hectic, crazy and stressful. You have cabs trying to get around you, other cars, buses, people walking, bicycle riders and much more happening around you. The last thing you want to worry about is getting a speeding ticket or a red light ticket. I have found about 45 different places around Chicago with red light cameras, and speeding cameras. Take a look and see how many there are, and how close they are to one another. You can see that many of these cameras are located by major park areas such as, Lincoln park, McKinley park. I believe the reason why they are here are because there are many pedestrians and people around these areas, this is helping drivers be aware that they need to follow the speed limit to not only help them but also to avoid a tragic accident.  I also found that there are a couple by the Airport as well, again the high pedestrian rate in this area is speed camera benefit. Chicago is a very busy place and there is always something happening, and this is why that speed cameras and red light cameras are put into place to help everyones safety. Though it may be annoying getting a ticket in the mail, it also teaches you a lesson on staying the speed limit even though it is hard when cars are behind you giving you the middle finger but they'll be glad you followed the rules and kept them from getting a ticket or even worse causing an accident

15 foods you can make in 15 min

Being a college student, it is hard to juggle everything from class, work, extra curricular, and let along having time to make food. I recently found this article on Buzzfeed that shows 15 different foods you can make in 15 min. I recently just made the Chicken and Asparagus stir fry. The chicken took about 5 min top to cook on the stove and with the simple sauce of honey, garlic, and soy sauce made the whole dish come together. Not only is this dish delicious but it is also healthy. Which is another problem students in college face, since we are always so busy we tend to lean on microwaveable dinners which are high in sodium, and carbs, along with eating a bag of chips or just continuously snacking when pulling all nighters. All 15 of these dishes are simple, fresh, and create a healthy balance. My next dish on this list I want to try is the Margarita Pizza and the Gouda, and peppers and mushroom Quesadilla.

Check out all 15 here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/melissaharrison/15-minute-dinners#.kwZeXwQw

Nik Wallenda completes walk of 400-foot wheel in Orlando

Nik Wallenda the dare devil completed yet another terrifying stunt on Wednesday morning in Orlando Florida. Nik started walking around 8 am on top of the cities new attraction, which will be open to the public in a month. Nik said it was really windy, winds probably around 20 mph, and the structure was really slippery. Though he was committed to his 4 min walk across the 400ft  Orlando Eye. He rode to the top of the wheel, then navigated his way around the structure. After completing his task he rode down in one of the wheel cars. Nick Wallenda is known for doing crazy dare devil stunts, just last November in Chicago, he went across two skyscraper with no safety wear. Also in 2012 at the Grand Canyon, he went across just walking on thin wire as well. Nik is a the great- grandson of another great dare devil, Karl Wallenda who fell to his death in a stunt in Puerto Rico at the age of 73.

Baltimore Mother Beats Son

The news in Baltimore has been everywhere, though today a new story has been brought to the spot light. A Mother in Baltimore smacked her child when she saw her son throwing rocks at the police. In the video you can see her chasing her son around, and slapping him and giving him a profanity lecture about how rioting is not ok. Everyone has been applauding this mother for her action, even the cities commissioner, Anthony batts is applauding her actions, though it wasn't just the police applauding everyone on social media has as well, saying Mom of the year, good parenting, we have your respect... etc. What do you think? I personally think this is great, I think that parents need to get involved, since their children area just as apart of the riots as other adults are. Parents are a big influence on their kids, and what this mother did is show that she loves her son, and wants him to succeed in life.

London Olympic Audio Story

This slideshow is from the BBC on the plans for the areas around the Olympic stadium and what they will look like. There is a voiceover done by Duncan Innes, form the Olympic Park Legacy Company. The slideshow has a mixture o shots of the state of the areas no and then the digital artistic impressions of what the areas will look like when the construction is completed.
The slideshow I believe was done very well because it matched what Duncan Innes was saying to the images, for example when he says one area will be very close to the cycling tack, then a couple seconds later, he says it will also be close to the station, and then we get a visualization of what the Stratford station looks like. I think that timing is everything, and especially important with a voiceover in a video slideshow such as this one, such as if the voice was recorded before the slideshow, it would not match up and create confusion of the listener.
Because this slideshow is showing what will be expected, I especially enjoyed seeing the before and the expectations of what the suburbs will look like when the construction is done, it shows huge promise and high expectations for the city of London. Not only does he talk about the the games but how the Olympic suburbs will help London grow as well, with jobs, journalism, just bringing everyone together. It also shows how each different part of the suburbs have its own personality, from urban, to country and how the travel to the main Olympic park is close to all of them making going to the games very convenient anywhere you stay.

Overall, I think this slideshow was very effective, it had a lot of information, it was put together nicely and precisely, making sure that the voice over was correct with the photos being showed. I especially enjoyed seeing the before and after photos of transformation of each suburbs, and how every suburb has its own personality and unique things to do.

Who do you think you are?

The show Who Do you Think you Are on the tv channel TLC takes celebs on a journey of their ancestry. I have been a fan of this show for the past few seasons it has aired. It makes me think what stories my ancestors hold. In some episodes they are able to create a family tree reaching back to the 1600s. I find this information so fascinating, that everyone has a past, and story in their family. It makes me want to go out and search my ancestry to see what stories, controversies, triumphs that my ancestors have. If it was not for our ancestors, we, I would not be here today. All of our family trees started somewhere. I have a cousin that traced our one side of the families tree back to Poland though I do not know much details, I know that she has visited many of our long lost cousins and family members. Though you don't even have to leave the house now to find your families history, the use of ancestry.com allows everyone to trace their family tree, and show documents, photos and other interesting information that is attached to your families history. So what will your families history reveal?

#kyliejennerchallenge

Kylie Jenner recently has been sporting a more plumper lip, and many girls have been trying to achieve this look, yet have epicly failed. Kylie Jenner is becoming more and more influential with teens, but now her look is inspiring girls to a 'lip challenge' where a shot glass is used to plump their lips! Her challenge is leaving girls with bruises and face hickies. There has been a recent video of a girls lips exploding from doing this challenge, she said, " I did it as a joke to post on Instagram" Le says she put her lip inside a Sprite bottle and sucked the air until she felt her lips explode. The picots below is the result of attempting Kylie's lip challenge. Celebrities are always creating new trends, and which teens are being sucked into. Every girl want to have the latest style, the latest makeup look, because they do not realize they are gorgeous they way they are. They think guys will like them more if they have these huge lips like Kylie Jenner. Yet achieve this look has created much controvery and overall many problems.
My Words of Advice: Just Be You.

Woman’s Lips Explode After

A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words

Today in class we had a guest speaker, our Photojournalism professor come and talk to us about how photos capture the moment and create emotions we could not get by just reading a description. Throughout her presentation she should many different photos ranging from, iconic, happy, sad, and even disturbing. One of my favorite photos she showed was a photo story,"The final salute." These pictures was a story of a fallen solider being brought home to his family. The photos captured his pregnant wife, emotions, along with his fellow marines staying by his side one last time. These pictures hit home to me, I have had many friends go into the military and be deployed yes, many of them returned yet, one of my good friends did not make it home. I remember the 21 gun salute and his family holding the folded flag and processing that their boy is being laid to rest. But not all the photos she showed was heartbreaking the last photo she showed was a little girl pressed against a statues butt, everyone in the classroom started to laugh including me.

Photos are worth a 1000 words, they show peoples emotions, thoughts, and life. I think that photographing people is more interesting that landscapes, people to me have so much to share, and we can all relate to one another in different ways. And photos help us do so

Waiting for Death

Another assignment that was given to us in class was to find an audio slide show. When I first googled "audio slide show" there were many examples that showed up. Though this audio slide show title, Waiting for Death, struck me the most. I was interested, intrigued to see what this story was about. This story was about a 90 year old man who knew he did not have much time to live, he didn't even think he had a year left. He compared him self to an old crumbing statue that was in his backyard, what I feel he meant by this was, that you don't realize how old you are until you start looking and realizing the cracks and deterioration of your health. Though the statue will always be there. The pictures that went along with the narrative story were humbling, mysterious, and weirdly calming.  The old man was narrating the story his voice was slow, humbling and you could hear the old wisdom in his voice. I think that the amount of pictures that were shown within this 1:30-2 min story went along well with what the man was saying. I especially love the part when he said that he will always be here, in his children, grand children, and his DNA will be here. And the old pictures of his wife, kids, friends, and family that wen along with the part was truly heart warming. We all have had someone close to us pass, and we know that they are not physically here but the memories, stories, and special objects will always be apart of us.

Panera, Healthy?

Panera is one of my favorite places to grab lunch, though it is still considered a fast food restraurent it does not feel like it since you feel you are going to a little cafe which has healthy choices, with the variety of sandwiches, soups, salads and so much for to choose from. "While there are a lot of lean meats, whole grains, and veggies on the menu, it definitely takes a bit of skill to uncover the healthiest dishes that won't break those calories and lets not talk about the sodium! "A recent article I read on AOL this morning should what nutritionists order when at Panera. Their article talked about how even though you think you are eating healthy by getting a salad, some of their salads have over 1000mm of sodium per serving! One of my favorite meals was mentioned on here and it was one of the meals that the nutritionists recommended as well, the Half roasted Turkey Avocado BLT on sourdough bread with a Cesar salad.

Here is the link to article and take notes for your next visit!

  • Make the Healthy Choice

Panera Bread is a popular destination because it’s quick and provides lots of tasty and seemingly healthy options. While there are a lot of lean meats, whole grains, and veggies on the menu, it definitely takes a bit of skill to uncover the healthiest dishes that won't break the calorie (and sodium!) bank. We quizzed nine nutritionists on what they order at Panera Bread — take notes for your next visit!
  • Classic with Chicken Salad

“One of my biggest gripes about these types of restaurants is the sodium in the dishes,” says Bonnie Taub-Dix, MA, RDN, CDN, Everyday Health Columnist. “The Classic with Chicken Salad is a decent pick because the calories are low (300), the fat is reasonable (13 grams), the protein is good (27 grams), and the sodium is a decent number (310 milligrams), unlike some of their other salads clocking in at over 1000 milligrams of sodium per serving!”
  • Half Greek Salad with Black Bean Soup

One of Panera Bread’s selling points is the “You Pick Two” combo, where you can choose two of the following: cup of soup, half sandwich, half salad, or one flatbread. Robyn Coale, RD and author of The Real Life RD blog, went for a “You Pick Two” option for her order.
“The Greek Salad is full of fresh vegetables instead of lots of meat and cheese. You’ll get more fiber and antioxidants! I would order the dressing on the side so I could control how much I use,” says Coale. “I’d pair the salad with the Black Bean Soup since it’s full of fiber and phytochemical-rich, plant-based protein – which is great for preventing chronic disease and keeping you full! Plus, by choosing a vegetarian soup, you’ll avoid the unnecessary saturated fats that come with meat or cream-based soups.”
  • Power Chicken Hummus Bowl

“Whenever I am ordering from a restaurant menu, my strategy is to look for a meal with the most whole food ingredients along with portion sizes that most closely mimic a ‘balanced plate’,” reveals Alicia Anskis, MS, RD, LDN, and nutritionist at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. “This means that ¼ of the plate contains lean protein, paired with ¼ starch, and the rest should be low-calorie, nutrient-rich vegetables and fruit.”
“At Panera Bread, the Power Chicken Hummus Bowl fits this model. It’s low in saturated fat and has less sodium than most of the other items,” continues Anskis. “It is full of veggies like spinach, tomatoes, and cucumber which are rich in fiber, potassium, vitamins A and C, and health-protective phytonutrients like flavonoids and carotenoids, which provide anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer benefits. Plus, the fresh cilantro and lemon add extra flavor without extra calories!”
  • Fuji Apple Chicken Salad

“My favorite thing on the Panera Bread menu is the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad,” says Katherine Younger, RD and author of the blog, Kath Eats Real Food. “It has a great sweet and savory combo. The chicken provides protein, while the pecans act as a healthy fat. The apples and lettuce will give you a good dose of fiber. Just go easy on the dressing!”
  • Half Sierra Turkey Sandwich and Garden Vegetable Soup

“I love that it's easy to see the menu’s nutrition facts at Panera Bread,” says Jenna Braddock, MSH, RD, CSSD, and author of the blog, Make Healthy Easy. “It makes it easy to be flexible and choose the best option. I also appreciate that you can choose a half order of a sandwich. My favorite sandwich is the Sierra Turkey, but at 740 calories, that's rarely going to work for me. However, a half size of the sandwich is only 340 calories, and I can pair it with the Garden Vegetable Soup with Pesto at 140 calories and be right under 500 calories — a filling lunch.”

Presidency History

Hilary Clinton has announced on Sunday that she will be running for President in the next election. There has always been rumors going around in past elections that she will be running, though it has come true. She is striving to be not only the first women president though also trying to show America what its true potential can be. I believe that this is a great step women, it shows that we are powerful and do deserve to run especially since our ancestors have pushed for so many rights in the past, and for them to see this happening today, I could not imagine what their emotions would be. Hilary has always been in the political life, from her younger days in college to her first lady days when her husband President Clinton. Though of course with politics and people opinions, there has been some harsh words and criticism towards her announcement of running for president. Such as for her logo, many are saying, "Hillary Clinton's official, high-budget Presidential campaign logo. Brought to you by Microsoft Paint." Her logo can be seen below. I think that this criticism will only make her a stronger candidate and will show the people of America what she believes will help our country.

Big Girl World

As my last semester as a college student comes closer and closer to ending, it is crazy to think that I will be in the big girl world! Trying to find a full time job that will hire a recent graduate is harder than what I expected. Everyone always says to stay in school cause getting into the big boy/girl world is not easy. All I can do is hope for the best in sending out my resumes to the companies I hope to be apart of. There is also the factor that I want to move out of IL though I would love to move out right away, I have come to face that it is somewhat not ideal though because I want to so bad, I believe I could make it work to reach the goals that I want in my life, experience what else the world has to offer other than staying in IL. In your 20s, I believe it is the time in your life to go out and try out things and even if they don't work, I know I will always have a home and loving parents to come home to, and have for support in my life.

Bikini Season is Almost Here!

Summer is just around the corner, and which means Bikni and swimsuit season! If you are like me, its time to get back into the gym. Those winter months were all about styaing inside, drinking hot cocoa, and just curled up on the couch with a blanket, making it hard to hit the gym when its -20 out.
Now it is nice out again, and there is no excuse to be inside, and not doing some sort of exercise.
I have recently started back up and already feel so much more healthier.
Here are so great ways to help you get back into shape for the summer.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/sallytamarkin/moves-for-a-killer-core
I have been doing these ab workouts for the past couple days, though they are kill and every abs burn, I am already seeing results! Make sure that you do multiple reps and sets. I ususally do 20 reps with 5 sets. Which would make doing each exercise 100 times. One of my favorite things is to infuse my water with fruits or just with lemons, it makes drinking water fun and exciting! Along with lemon water it helps to detox along with other great benefits. Try Cucumber water if you are feeling stresssed!

 Happy Bikini Training!

Bring Your Mom To Class

I was presently surprised when I was waiting for my 12:30 class, to see my Mom in the elevator to surprise me at school. She did this back when I was just a little Freshman, which was so embarressing. Though now it was actually really fun to take her to some of my classes and to see the reaction of my classmates and teachers. She stayed from Tuesday till Thursday morning, we went to the movies, shopped around town, and it was also nice that I didnt have to eat leftover dinners from 3 days ago, since she took me out for dinner and lunch both days.
My Mom is literally my bestfriend, even though she gets on my nervs sometimes, it's all out of love :)  Since I will be graduating in 4 weeks, it was a nice little send off since she visited my 1st year here and now she visted for my last year. Definetly one of the memories I will charish, and will probably do to  my kids as well.

The impact of digitization on media content

On Monday March 30 in the COFAC hall at 7 p.m. the professor of journalism and public relations Mohammad Siddiqi, shared his results and studies on the digitalization on media content, readership and formats. In his speech is mentioned that blogging, websites and different social medias play a huge role in how we receive our news. He said, that more people now turn to Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and other social media sites and which these platforms are creating a decrease in traditional media such as newspapers.
Also in his lecture he mentioned how by revising the journalism courses/ curriculums, it would allows to teach students about popular technologies, social media skills, and multimedia skills. Siddiqi feels that these courses will be a great change and helpful for students, the world is changing everyday, and so is technology every minute a new technology or concept is created or thought of, Siddiqi added that these new ideas create a threat to traditional media such as newspapers, he also feels that newspapers still hold a huge purpose in society.
Being in Digital Media Journalism, and learning about different social media’s such as digital visualizations. It shows how there are many sites and medias in which someone can learn about the world around them, and actually see what they are interested about. Such as the other day, I was interested in seeing data about the oceans. I found a website that we learned about in class and with this site it allowed me to see fish patters, migration patterns of different fish species. I feel this was beneficial because I could actually see the data rather than trying to interpret.

I support Prof. Siddiqi with allowing more of these digital classes for students to learn more about different sites that can benefit them in positive ways. Since the world is becoming technology based, I feel that he is on the right track on having these classes to help benefit students for today, and for the future.

The Roast of JB

So, the roast of Justin Bieber aired last night on Comedy Central. Justin Bieber is a well known celebrity for not only his songs but also his not so role-model actions and attitudes. Justin Bieber was roasted by fellow celebrities: Kevin Hart, Jeff Ross, Ludacris, Chris D'Elia, Hannibal Buress, Shaq, Martha Stewart, Snoop Dogg, Ron Burgundy, and even Justin Bieber him self. I throughly enjoyed watching this event it was hilarious seeing he fellow colleagues, friends, and comedians roast him on his behaviors and his overall bad judgements he has made.
I have posted a link from buzzFeed that shows the "Top Brutal Jokes from the JB roast."

 Enjoy!

Graduation

It finally hit me this past weekend that I will be graduating from college in 6 weeks. Where has the time gone? I still remember shopping for everything for my freshman dorm year. I have made so many friends and lost friends along my college life. College has been the best 4 and worst 4 years of my life. I have learned a lot, experienced a lot partied a lot, wrote a lot of papers, studied a lot. I wish I could say I remember most of the things I have learned in these past 4 years but honestly some classes were just ones that I just knew I needed to pass. I can't wait to walk across that stage in May I think a huge weight will be lifted off my shoulders.
Though the next part will be finding a big girl job and living in a big girl world. Though I am so excited to get into a field that I throughly enjoy rather than writing papers and research papers on topics that I don't understand nor care about.

The level of excitement knowing that there are only weeks left until graduating, is allowing me to push harder and make through the rest of the semester!

Month of Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has been a role model for many across the world. Her concert to this day has been one of my favorites, everyone dressed up and the energy that she brought to the stage along with the props made the concert worth every bit of money. The past couple months, it seems that her life has become more great and more full of love. Not only did she get engaged to Taylor a main character in Chicago Fire, but also her amazing tribute performance of The Sound of Music's 50th anniversary. I have made a Storify that show her fans reactions, and her many great achievements and moments in the last couple months.
Enjoy!

Is Summer Here Yet?

Summer is always the time of year when everyone seems to be happy, tan and outside just enjoying the weather. This summer I will be graduated and hopefully have a job that I love doing. Though one particular day I am excited for is June 6th to see Kenny Chesney with my best friends. We all love country music and this concert is not only a way to be together but also to celebrate all of us graduating. We have been best friends since 4th and 6th grade and have been through everything together and couldn't imagine my life with out them. It has also been many years since Kenny has gone on tour, so not only will it be a good time, but for one night Chicago will be a country music frenzy. There are many other concerts that we are looking at as well such as Jason Aldean in July, which we all went to last year and ever since that last concert Jason Aldeans will forever be one of our favorite memories.

Spring Break

Spring break is always looked forward to especially college students such as myself. Its that time of the year when we all just need a break from not only school but also possibly our room mates. This spring break I was wishing I was in Cacun, or South padre.... etc. Though it took that week to just relax and take time to see my friends and family along with celebrating my Uncles wedding that Saturday. Weddings are always, fun you get to see family that you havent seen in many years along with meeting the brides side of the family as well. It was a perfect day for a wedding it was 60 degrees, sunny and everyone was happy and having a good time. Overall my week break back at home was a breathe of fresh air and was great to see my friends and family along with being back in my hometown. Now we are back at school and have 7 weeks left until I graduate, which is a bitter sweet moment but I am ready to get into the big girl world and start my career.

I Have a Dream

Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream Speech," Is one of my favorite speeches. It is the power and the passion in this speech that has made it iconic. Using the website wordle.net I created a word map. Within this map you can see that the words Freedom is the biggest, along with other words such as freedom. This is the most used words within in the speech, because MLK has a dream that one day everyone will be free, and be able to be together.

Look Flawless

Being in college, it is not unusual to see your classmates showing up with no makeup, and baggy sweatshirts and yogas. Though when going out to the bars, it is a whole new atmosphere, everyone is put together and actually took time to work on their apperance. Because getting ready in 5 min and running out the door to class is an occuring thing. Here are some simple beauty routines you should start in your twenties.
1. Wear sunscreen, I usually find a BB or CC cream that has an SPF in it, so it not only protects your skin of harmful sun rays but also gives a more even skin tone finish.

2. Drink plenty of water, spice it up by infusing your favorite fruits to make drinking water fun. I usually use lemons, or even strawberries, oranges, pineapple. Cucumbers are a good calming addition as well.

3. Working out, going out, even going to class can pollute your face. Use a face mask once a week to help detox your pores, it also helps hydrate and treat acne.

4.Stretching, this is a huge thing not only in your twenties but also do this your whole life.Stretching keeps you nice and limber so your body is less tense looking and tense feeling. It’s even been shown to help you sleep if you do it right before bed.

5. Use Eye cream, this can help prevent those wrinkles later, tap gently because your skin is thin in this area, apply morning and night.

6. And finally don't forget to smile and just relax, by smiling your let our endorphins, which makes you happy and glowing.

My Name in Chinese

Today in our digital media class we learned how to write our names in Chinese. My professor Yong Tang loves to bring his cultures and traditions from his Chinese hometown into the class room. It allows all of us to learn more about the different cultures in the world and to be able to globalize our views. Learned that my name in Chinese means, victory and corral from the sea. I enjoyed learning how to write and say my name in a different language.

Country in Chicago

There is so many places in Chicago for a night out on the town. One of my favorite bars to go to is Joes on Weed Street. It is a warehouse style bar that that specializes in sports, music and private parties. Being a country music fan this place has it all, live performances of popular country artists to up and coming artists, and local artists as well. If you love country music, sports, live music, and great drinks and food this is the place for you. This place is great to go to for all year around concerts right in the city of Chicago. Because, it is a bar you have to be 21 to enter.

You can head to: joesbar.com to see the latest updates, specials, and upcoming concerts.

- Toss a hand full of frozen ice cubes into the blender (Add more if needed)

Cuddle Weather

The winter months have come upon us! Living in Illinois, I know the struggles of getting out of bed and wanting to go outside in the -15 degree weather. When downtown Chicago, I always have a little shooter of whiskey in my jacket pocket to numb the cold. Though putting it in coffee does the trick, I found a new hot drink to enjoy on these cold frigid days. This drink is perfect for those Chicago cold, windy days, or even just snuggling up by the fire place with your significant other, or even by yourself with a good  book or movie.

This drink is a twist on hot chocolate:
Hornitos Hot Toddy
1 oz of Anejo Tequila ( Or favorite Tequila)
4oz of hot chocolate
Garnish with Whipped Cream and Chili Powder
** Add the tequila and hot chocolate to a half-pint glass. Garnish with whipped cream and a dash of chili powder for a little kick.

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Mardi Gras is around the corner, and everyone is starting to celebrate it! Mardi Gras is a not only a big event in New Orleans but also around the United States. Fat Tuesday which it is also called, is a day where you fill up on what you are giving up for the lent season for Easter. I am always awful at figuring out what to give up for lent, I always seem to say, "I am giving up chocolate."
Themed parties are always a lot of fun to put together, and have people come dressed up and participate in your themed parties. To prepare you for Mardi Gras, I have found some great drink recipes to spice up your cocktails for your guests.
Of course you have to have New Orleans signature drink,

The Hurricane
 Recipe:
1/2 cup of ice
2fl ounces of Rum (Your choice)
2fl ounces of passion fruit syrup
1 cup of lemon- lime soda
1 ounce of lime juice
1 fl ounce of 151 proof rum
** In a shaker combine ice, light rum, syrup, lemon-lime soda and sake well. then pour the mixture into a glass (Hurricane Glass, or specialty glass) and then pour the 151 proof rum on top. Enjoy!

This drink will be a favorite among all your guests, and will bring New Orleans to your party.

A Glass of Wine and Buble in the background

Today was one of those days, when you just want to relax in a bubble bath, Michael Buble singing the background, a glass of wine, along with some candles lit.
After I turned 21, I gained an appreciation for wine.  I love going to the store and trying out different wines, from different areas of the world, or even local wineries. For example, Wide River Winery in  Iowa. I can not get enough of their, Mis Be'havin wine. It is a white grape wine that is enhanced with cranberries, it is great with poultry, rice or for any occasion such as your bubble baths. I am not much of a red wine drinker but this one is amazing and have been ravin it about it to everyone.
You don't have to go to Iowa to get this bottle, you can order their wines online as well. Though their store is super cute, and right on the Mississippi River, which is perfect scenery for their daily wine tasting and special events that they host.

If you are interested in looking more into this winery visit them at:  wideriverwinery.com

Thirsty Thursday

We all have our favorite drinking themed name days. Margarita Monday, Tipsy Tuesday, Wasted Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday...  etc. Being in college, has taught everyone the true definition of these days especially after a long day of classes and hardcore studying for a test the next day. Our favorite "study partners," have seen and been right by our sides, even when times have gotten tough. And still stick by our sides when we move out of our dorm rooms, and our little apartments. My blog will help you break away from your typical go to drinks, and bring new recipes to enhance your old drink or even to try something new. Also, travel the world to see what different cultures enjoy to drink and bring a global experience at your own home.

Ernest Hemingway said it himself, "Write Drunk, Edit Sober."
Cheers!
